BREXIT: An Opportunity to Integrate Strategy and High-Performance Risk Management?

More than two-thirds of UK businesses say they need to know the details of any transition arrangement after Brexit by June 2018 — just nine months from now — in order to plan properly. But what does ‘to plan properly’ mean?

Planning properly for Brexit requires a tailored assessment of the impact on immediately affected products and services, on products and services which were in development before the referendum, on people, organisational capability and a myriad of other considerations.

What specific questions therefore should people be asking and how do they know what ‘good’ answers look like?

In the absence of a proven approach, what does a Sound, Integrated, Measured and Continuously Improving Brexit Approach Plan look like?

IMHO such an approach needs to have a blend of:

  1. Brexit Framework Questions assessed against the ability to demonstrate completeness of answers and thereafter assessed against internationally proven and accepted risk and strategy execution tools and techniques.
  2. Technology-enabled military/agile methods which, recognizing pace of change, hyper-connectivity and our multi-polar uncertain world, help organizations develop capabilities providing lateral connectivity and structured sharing of information across organisational leadership teams, centres’ of excellence and internal subject matter experts.

Such an approach can provide a means of both exploiting opportunities ahead of less adaptive competitors and defending the business model against threats and risks from wherever they might arise in an increasingly complex marketplace.

What do you think?

BTW, I’ll be reporting on the output from tests using this approach at the Metric Stream GRC (Risk Management for High Performers) Summit on the 6th and 7th Nov next in London.
